Truck won t start just clicks once. The starter is a small electric motor that needs a fair amount of power to start spinning your car’s engine, even more so for vehicles with bigger engines such as trucks and large suvs. Sprinkles08 , chrysler/dodge/jeep master tech replied 12 years ago I've replaced the battery and hit the starter a few times.
Today i went to attempt to drive my truck. It just clicks, but the battery is good? No attempt to turn over, just a click.
But luckily the tech said he was able to get the starter to act weird once, so they threw a starter into it. If i had not tried to do it by the book and get everything tested then the truck would have been fixed over a week ago! It was the starter after all.
Got back in the truck, went to start it and nothing but a click. I have a ford explorer 4.0l auto trans with six cylinders. My truck every once in awhile won't start, motor won't turn over at all.
I hear a click when i turn the key. Ok, i started my truck in the am, it started but the starter was really slow. Also had the starter tested which tested good.
Just a single click coming from the starter it sounds like Mine doesn't, and i think it used to. Looking for some advice, help, point me in the right direction etc.
Later that evening we got in it to take off for the weekend and all it would do when i turned the key was just click one time and the was it. When there is not enough power to the starter or the starter has too much resistance the solenoid tries to activate, but can’t and it makes the distinct. Then in the afternoon, i turned the key and only heard one click noise from under hood and starter would not even engage.
If i keep trying to start it it will eventually turn on but i'm just not sure what i need to replace to prevent this. After i shut my truck off and tried to start it up again it wouldn't start it was making clicking sounds. Every once in a while when i go to start my truck my starter just clicks.

A few months ago, the truck wouldn’t start. A starter like any other mechanical and electrical part is subject to failing sometimes for no apparent reason. Hate to say it but if the solenoid clicks and it don't start, it's either a bad battery, bad starter or bad battery cables. I have been told it could be corrosion on my terminals but i've also heard it could be my starter soloinoid. Radio would play, lights were on, but no start.

I consider myself very lucky that the truck only had to go to the dealer once for this issue because the tow truck girl was able to get it start, and it started at the dealer. Dodge ram 1500 won't start every once in awhile 1 answer. Stopped at a gas station to get a drink.

It is much easier to get the battery tested than replacing a starter on these trucks. My ram wont start just clicks one time. All my lights come on but it won't turn over.

Took the battery to parts store and it was bad. The truck has a battery that is about 14 months old and i have had no signs of starter prolems what so ever. The clicking is coming from over by the ceilinoyed switch.

So my truck will not start , all i get is a click noise coming from the starter when key is turned. However, sometimes this is misdiagnosed as well and often times mistaken for something much more simple like a fuse or starter relay.the starter relay is a small unit near the starter that directs power to the starter from the battery. Wont crank or anything, just a single click.
